En plein air (French pronunciation: [ɑ̃ plɛn ɛːʁ]), or plein air painting, is a phrase borrowed from the French equivalent meaning “open (in full) air”. It is particularly used to describe the act of painting outdoors, also called French: peinture sur le motif (“painting of the object(s) or what the eye actually sees”), where a painter reproduces the actual visual conditions seen at the time of the painting. This method contrasts with studio painting or academic rules; those might create a predetermined look. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/En_plein_air

Paint with us abroad this year – we have sought out some fabulous painting spots for you, in Europe, Africa, Asia and America.

Art Safari – unique wildlife, wilderness & city painting holidays

Art Safari is for all those inspired to paint by travel.  Your travel sketchbooks become visual diaries, full of the wonders of the world.

Our tutors Mary-Anne Bartlett, James Willis, John Threlfall, Jackie Garner, Julia Cassels, Mark Boyd, Darren Rees, Claudia Myatt, Tony Hogan and Karen Pearson will help you take in detail, observe, learn and collect memories in your sketches and paintings.  Whether you are a beginner or you are already an experienced artist, Art Safari’s professional team of tutors and guides will encourage you to sit, look, sketch, observe, soak up the atmosphere and produce many sketches and paintings of your new environment.

Art Safari’s holidays are for creative explorers: artists, writers, photographers and non-painters.  Whether travelling on your own or not, you are welcomed into a like-minded group.  Be assured of inspiration, good food, comfort and style.  Photographers and non-painting partners will experience new ways of seeing as well as enjoying all the benefits of relaxed wildlife viewing and personal safari guiding – brilliant for photography, bird watching and learning more about nature.
