Art Safari creative adventures out of Africa to the Channel Islands

Jersey

A zoo in my sketchbook

 1 to 7 July 2015

with Mary-Anne Bartlett

For our first Art Safari to  Jersey we are basing ourselves at the Durrell Conservation Trust, a tranquil 32 acre haven of woodlands, lakes and water gardens and specially created habitats.  Golden Lion tamarinds play in the woods and flamingos wade in the lakes which surround the 18th Century granite manor, familiar to many through Gerald Durrell’s numerous books.

Gorilla Jersey

CoGorilla by Amry-Anne Bartlettnservationists from all over the World have studied the theory and practice of conserving endangered species here.

The park is open from 09:30 until 18:00 every day, so we will make the most of our time sketching and painting wildlife and also exploring the coastal landscapes of Jersey, dramatic cliffs on the north coast and sweeping sands on the south coast. The park is only a 10 minute walk from beautiful coastal cliff paths and there is a bus stop at the entrance.  We will visit rugged Corbière lighthouse, Mont Orgueil Castle overlooking the Royal Bay of Grouville and picturesque St Aubin’s Harbour.

There are two choices of accommodation available for this tour, luxury ‘glamping’ Pods which overlook Lemur Island, or simple accommodation in the Durrell Hostel a traditional Jersey farmhouse which is located in the north western corner of the wildlife park
