Great deserts, seascapes, landscapes and wildlife are our subjects. On this Art Safari the landscape is ever changing, as you move across the county filling your sketch books and cameras with extraordinary weather sculpted terrain beneath vast dramatic skies.  Using our expert local knowledge we have tailor-made this experience taking you to sketch and explore breath-taking vistas by day, before retiring to stylish and comfortable lodges to relax, unwind and savour this artistic journey.

Use sweeping brushstrokes as we explore the red dunes of the Kalahari Desert, followed by sharp lines for the forks of the sculptural Quiver Tree Forest.  Actually an aloe plant rather than a tree, these attractive succulents reach skywards, named Quiver Trees after the Bushmen and Hottentots tribes who use the braches to make quivers for their arrows.

Fish River Canyon offers vast arid vistas, this region is home to resilient flora, kudu, Oryx, Klipspringer and the elusive Hartmann’s mountain zebra.

We explore the isolated harbour town of Luderitz, where quaint colourful Jugendstil architecture is a contrast to the barren Atlantic coastline, a colony of fur seals live Diaz Point a rocky headland with its back to the Namib Desert.  There’s even a chance to see Jackass penguins here, as well as many other seabirds including flamingos dancing in the waves. We sketch the ‘ghost’ diamond mining town of Kolmanskop, which thrived in the 1920’s, when it was home to the management of the ‘Forbidden’ diamond area ‘Sperrgebiet’.  Crumbling ruins of stately homes and desolate streets are slowly being reclaimed by the Desert sands.   Sperrgebiet is home to desert horses, at Garub  wild horses can be observed and sketched as they stop to drink.

Become completely absorbed by the landscape during scenic game drives amidst the dramatic scenery of the NamibRand Nature.  Expansive sand and gravel plains and endless stretches of grass savannah alternate with majestic mountain ranges and vegetated dune belts of deep red sand. The variety of flora and fauna is as fascinating as the colour nuances, which change continuously.

Paint Sossusvlei, famous for its towering apricot coloured sand dunes, from here Deadvlei  can be reached on foot over 1km of sand. Deadvlei’s striking camel thorn trees, dead for want of water, still stand erect as they once grew. They survived until about 900 years ago when the sand sea finally blocked the river from occasionally flooding the pan.
