Art Safari adventures to Bhutan
We immerse ourselves in the Bhutanese lifestyle, culture and traditions, visiting Paro, Punakha, Trongsa and staying in a hilltop Palace in beautiful Bumthang. Our sketchbooks will become journals, dotted with monasteries, brightly coloured prayer flags and splashes of ‘monks robe-red’.
The buildings are ornately decorated (even the petrol station!), high mountain passes are adorned with fluttering prayer flags and shaggy yaks graze by the roadside. Water driven prayer wheels, flowering Magnolias, rhododendrons, patches of primula, birds and butterflies catch our eye as we journey slowly through this magnificent Himalayan kingdom.
The Buddhist faith permeates daily life, there is a reverence for the land and its well being. Monks of all ages carry out their monastic duties while acrobatic monkeys navigate the rooftops overhead and puppies sleep peacefully in the sun. Festivals in Bhutan are a riot of colour and raw energy, barefoot dancers leap and twirl to drum beats, their faces concealed with masks.
