Art Safari painting holiday and creative adventures in France
Impressions of the Camargue
23 to 29 June 2017
with Julia Cassels
A brand new Art Safari to the South of France with artist Julia Cassels to paint in the beautiful light of Provence.
We will be based in Arles on the banks of the Rhone, following in the footsteps of Vincent Van Gogh who lived for a while in Arles with his friend Gauguin, and painted The Cafe Terrace on Place du Forum here in 1888.
In Arles we are surrounded by wonderful architecture, art and fascinating history.
We will take excursions to paint the wild Camargue, a 30 min drive from Arles. This is Europe’s largest river delta made up of salt lagoons, vast sand-bars and reed covered mashes where white Camargue horses roam, flamingos feed in the lagoons and majestic black bulls graze on the salty coastal meadows. Beaches of pristine sand stretch for miles, this is the South of France in early summer and you are painting beside the sparkling Mediterranean sea with Julia there to guide and mentor you, she will tutor with demonstrations and one-to-one tuition time, helping you to capture the essence of this inspirational place.
We spend a day sketching and painting in the charming village of Saint-Remy-de-Provence with narrow cobbold streets, shaded squares, gurgling fountains, colourful flowers and bustling cafes. Van Gogh stayed at Saint-Remy-de-Provence, he painted ‘Starry Night’ here and many wonderful images of the Alpilles Mountains.
