Art Safari’s creative adventures out of Africa to Italy
A hilltop in Tuscany
With James Willis
29 September – 6 October 2017
Tuscany is a brand new itinerary for 2017. This Art Safari is for people who are looking for a relaxing and creative getaway with an inspiring tutor, dreamy views, stylish accommodation, delicious food and wine.
The Tuscan climate is generally very mild, in October the average temperature is 72 °F (22 °C), perfect for painting outdoors.
We are flying to Pisa Galileo Galilei Airport and staying at a beautiful villa in the Tuscan countryside near Cortona.
Cortona is perched high on the hillside of Mount Egidio, surrounded by olive groves and age old cypresses, it’s a walled town and dates back to Etruscan times. Cortona offers enchanting views out across the Valdichiana to Lake Trasimeno and the Appenine mountains. There are plenty of outdoor cafes and bars, as well as some great restaurants and shops.
Artist James Willis is well known for his large views of London and Italian cities, and as a tutor at the Sir John Soane Museum. Sharing his architectural sketching skills and techniques.
James will help you to make sense of complicated juxtapositions, and increase confidence when tackling perspectives and shadows.
We make painting excursions to nearby towns and villages in the Tuscan hills, painting landscapes, Renaissance inspired building, Monasteries, ancient Churches and Abbeys.
You will come back with a vibrant sketchbook, superb memories and some wonderful material to work with during the autumn.
