With Jackie Garner
Join Jackie Garner for this summer art break on Lundy Island in the Bristol Channel to sketch and paint spectacular coastal scenery, characterful wind-swept trees, ruins, lighthouses and rocky shores, seabirds, Soay sheep, wild goats Lundy ponies and Sika deer. Around 140 species of birds are recorded on the island each year and rarities are always a possibility.
We hope to have opportunities to observe and paint the puffins who arrive on Lundy from mid-March to nest in underground burrows. The puffins leave the Island during late July or early August, heading for the North Atlantic where they spend the non-breeding season.
From our elegant Georgian Villa we have wonderful views along a wooded valley and out to sea. This will be our base and studio on Lundy. From here it is a short uphill walk to the village and Tavern. With little light pollution Lundy has a dark sky status, as night falls we can marvel at the stars.
Spaces for this special Art Safari are limited and a reasonable level of fitness is required, as we will be walking everywhere and some of the island pathways are steep. Luggage is carried to and from the house by trailer, while guests walk from the landing jetty.
We will travel to Lundy aboard the MS Oldenburg – Lundy’s own graceful ship (not included). The sailing time is usually under 2 hours, departure is from either Ilfracombe or Bideford. The Oldenburg is often escorted by pods of dolphins, they delight in playing in the ships wake.
