With artist Mark Boyd

Mark Boyd North Berwick 2009 024

Mark Boyd is leading an exci
ting two day drawing course at Welney Wetland Centre on the Norfolk Fens, where we will sketch and paint from the comfort of hides (the main hide has central heating). Swans

Welney wetland takes in 1,000 acres of the northernmost part of the Ouse Washes – Britain’s largest area of seasonally-flooded land and the setting for one of the most magical events in the UK’s nature calendar, the mass winter gathering of wild ducks, geese and up to 9,000 wild Bewick’s and Whooper swans.

The reserve also supports breeding populations of black-tailed godwit, redshank, snipe, little ringed plover, marsh harrier, gadwall, garganey, teal, skylark, yellow wagtail and reed bunting, as well as an abundance of other wetland creatures and plants.

On the course you will have an introduction to drawing birds and other wildlife, and how to maintain confident line and colour when they move about.  Mark will give insights into drawing wildlife and wild places, open your eyes to the character of birds and conservation, and enthuse your drawings and paintings with the beauty of the natural world.

Marks approach is so refreshing – he will help you find lines you never knew existed (and then lose them), he will make you think about colour and markings.  Above all he will give you a deeper understanding of birds and of your own approach to drawing and painting wildlife.

Mark will meet you in the Wigeon Café at 10.00am.  The course finishes at 5.00pm.

To help you prepare we provide a short list of art materials to bring with you.

Cost:  £60 per day or £110 for 2 days of art tuition, excluding your Welney entrance fee of £7.45 (£5.73 concessions).
