We are very excited to introduce this new tour in stunning Slovenia with naturalist art tutor Mark Boyd. We spend our first three nights near Bovec, surrounded by the high peaks of the Julian Alps.  220px-Butterflies,_Alpine_Botanical_Garden_JulianaTutor Mark and our local guide will take you to some stunning locations to sketch and paint this dramatic landscape, the brilliant blue River Socha tumbles over rocks and cascades through gorges, the colour of the water really is dazzling.

Art tutor Mark is an expert birder, bring your binoculars so that you can share his enthusiasm and wildlife knowledge in this pristine alpine area.  His approach is very refreshing and he will give you a deeper understanding of your own approach to drawing and painting Slovenian wildlife and landscapes.

Slovenian bears for websiteFurther south, close to the Croatian border, we spend three nights near the bear hides.  This is a peaceful place with few visitors.  It’s very wild, a tiny paradise.

We cannot guarantee how many bears we will see but will make sure we have the best opportunities to observe and sketch from comfortable hides nestling into the woodland. Generally bears avoid human contact, if undisturbed they feed for 20-30 minutes.  Mark will spend some time during the day preparing and planning for quietly sketching bears from the safety of the hides.

The food in Slovenia is delicious with seasonal fresh produce, local cheeses, smoked hams, honey tasting of meadow flowers and smooth fruity ice-cream.  With three wine growing regions and passionate producers thereThe River Soca near Bovec Slovenia are some excellent wines awaiting discovery.

If you love bears but do not wish to sketch and paint them, this tour is suitable for non-painters, walkers and photographers, please call us for more details.

We hope be able to drive very close to most of our painting sites, so walking distances should not be more than a few hundred meters.  Underfoot the terrain will be uneven in places and the highest altitude we will reach on this tour is Mt Mangart at approximately 2300 meters.
