Karen Pearson is an artist, painter and sculptor, she has been teaching drawing and painting skills since 2002. Karen tutors classes and workshops in Dorking, Surrey. She also visits art groups and organisations around the home-counties, giving demonstrations, critiques, workshops and tutorials. For the past three years Karen has thoroughly enjoyed leading and tutoring art trips to some amazing, inspirational and enriching destinations with Art Safari.
After many years as a practicing Chartered Physiotherapist, Karen decided to rekindle her creative passion and embark on a second career in the arts world. She trained at the Pound Farm School of Painting & Drawing under Ken Ray and then went on to achieve a full distinction in Fine Art HND(Farnham, 2006) followed by a BA (Hons) in Sculpture at Wimbledon College of Art (University of the Arts London, 2013).
For a succession of years Karen exhibited and sold with The Society of Women Artists at the Mall Galleries and the Llewellyn Alexander Gallery, London, and with Surrey Artists Open Studios. Karen has received various awards for her work in local and national competitions. This year Karen was really pleased to have a bronze piece selected for the Threadneedle Prize Exhibition at the Mall Galleries, London.
Experienced in drawing and painting a wide range of subjects, Karen is inspired by the magic of the natural world, moments in time and the richness of life that surrounds us. Her work varies from the figurative to the abstract.
Although she works with oils, inks, acrylics, mixed media and pastels, her main discipline is watercolour with its ability to move and merge on the paper, its subtle and vibrant qualities and, at times, its unpredictability. It is an excellent medium to take on Art Safari painting holidays because of its portability and practicality.
On an Art Safari Karen will encourage you to produce a sketchbook of exciting drawings and paintings that result from your observations and experiences during your trip. Not only will this be a personal visual diary full of wonderful memories but it will also provide you with invaluable information towards main pieces of work. Karen will give mini demonstrations and tutorials throughout the holiday, and be there to give you as much help as you need!
Karen is very happy to encourage those of you who wish to take a more abstract or design approach to your work. A lot of exciting ideas and inspiration can be sourced from a new environment!
