Tour contentPaint the beautiful seas, rugged islands and fascinating species studied by Charles Darwin
Giant tortoises, sea lions, penguins, blue footed boobies, volcanic islands and deep blue seas. The Galapagos islands are all about pure colour, beautiful seas and skies, weird animals and strange plants.
Join Mary-Anne for 4 days of virtual painting in the Galapagos with live sessions including demos on painting landscapes and wildlife.
She will illustrate her talks on natural history and conservation with artwork done by explorers and artists since the islands were discovered. Darwin studied the flora and fauna here, and his conclusions led to his theories on evolution. We will supply you with pics from our Art Safari tours to the Galapagos for your source material.
(We will be visiting there for real in July, spaces are available – please join us. This will be Mary-Anne’s fourth time painting in the archipelago.)
Mary-Anne leads you via Zoom to the islands. We will have the chance to draw from stills and video footage and learn the techniques of a wildlife artist. With art demonstrations, interaction and tales from the high seas Mary-Anne will show you how she tackles various species including tortoises, boobies and sea lions. Even using photos she will show you how to make your sketches lively and loose.
In between your painting sessions Mary-Anne will give you exercises and homework to help your technique for drawing moving animals.
We will give you some local recipes try out between your painting sessions.
Learning via Zoom is highly concentrated and productive. It allows you to delve into technique and imagination.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
All sessions start at 2pm GMT
Day 1: Meet Mary-Anne and the Art Safari team on Zoom for three hours of art demonstration and tuition time, which includes advice on sketching seascapes, landscapes and wildlife.
Mary-Anne shows examples of her own sketches from the Galapagos.
You will have the option to paint from a variety of images to suit your taste from a library of photos you will receive as part of the course package.
Mary-Anne includes a slide talk on natural history and conservation in the Galapagos with artwork done by explorers and artists since the islands were discovered
You have time in between session to complete your work and submit images of your paintings for feedback on our private Facebook group or by email.
Day 2: We meet again the following afternoon to tackle a second painting through the same process.
Day 3: The third day is free for you to paint all day.
Day 4: We hold a final short meeting (around an hour) to review and share your work and insights from the course.
The workshop will be recorded so you will be able to watch the video online afterwards.
It’s going to be a fun and highly informative voyage!
