Come with Angela to paint the verdant forests, sweeping beaches and colourful wildlife in the national parks and experience 'Pura Vida'

Have you dreamed of painting in Costa Rica?  Welcoming and colourful, this country allows you to set aside every other commitment, to be swept along by the moment, and to paint from your heart.

Angela Fehr is excited to share her watercolour 15-day Art Safari workshop in Costa Rica. Travelling with a group fellow watercolour lovers, you have wonders to explore. Regardless of your skill level, together we will savour the beauty of Costa Rica’s diverse natural habitats through the belief in three basic ideas. First: beautiful process creates beautiful paintings. Second: every painting is growing our skills. And Third: there is freedom in painting from the heart.

Angela knows the challenges artists face often start in the mind. Together we’ll encourage each other to be brave and let go of self-criticism. Importantly, we’ll set the intention to use our brushes and sketchbooks to enrich our travel experience together.

Our 15-day Art Safari takes us around the best and most diverse destinations in Costs Rica.   Famous for its beautiful beaches and abundant wildlife, Costa Rica is a wonderful country to travel in. One of the more biodiverse countries in the world, it is both relaxing and exciting to paint as we take in feelings, landscapes and wildlife.  Here is a link to an online version of the full itinerary.

Pura Vida is the unofficial motto of Costa Rica.  It means so much more than ‘pure life’ as you will hear it as a greeting or a farewell, or an expression during a conversation.  Pura Vida expresses an easy-going attitude that is all about making the most of the simple things in life, enjoying nature, people, good company, good food and the time we spend together.

Starting with the vibrant city of San Jose, affectionately called ‘Chepe’. Discover its modern yet culturally rich landscape, with visits to theatres showcasing Costa Rican culture, museums housing ancient treasures like the largest collection of American jade, and streets adorned with colourful murals and painted buses.

Next we venture into Tortuguero National Park, a verdant paradise spanning 77,000 acres along the north-eastern coast. Encounter a diverse array of wildlife, including jaguars, monkeys, sloths, and countless bird species, amidst lush rainforests and pristine beaches. We will explore the park’s intricate network of canals by boat, offering unparalleled access to its ecological wonders. We stay at an incredible Lodge, nestled amidst the riverwalk, surrounded by exotic flora and fauna, providing a comfortable base for painting sessions and wildlife excursions. We will immerse ourselves in the vibrant ecosystem, sketching everything from caimans and river turtles to exotic birds and colourful frogs, while also experiencing the local village of Tortuguero.

We continue onto La Fortuna, a charming Costa Rican town nestled at the base of the majestic Arenal Volcano. We stay at a wonderful resort, offering picturesque views of the towering Arenal volcano and rejuvenating hot mineral springs.

Under Angela’s guidance, immerse yourself in landscape painting amidst tropical flora, vibrant birdlife, and the powerful presence of Mount Arenal. Embrace the ‘pura vida‘ lifestyle with knowledgeable Costa Rican guides, enriching your experience with insights into the region’s rich biodiversity and joyful outlook on life. Retreat to the resort for more painting sessions and relaxation in the rejuvenating hot springs, embracing the essence of Costa Rica’s natural beauty and hospitality.

Our penultimate destination is the charming village of Dominical, which awaits along the pristine Pacific coastline. Renowned for its world-class surfing, Dominical offers breath-taking landscapes blending lush jungle-clad mountains with black-sand beaches and dramatic cliffs.

Journey onwards to Manuel Antonio National Park for nature immersion and sunset vistas over the Pacific. Enjoy a private Mangrove Boat Tour at Sierpe, encountering vibrant wildlife amidst the jungle’s embrace, before returning to the lodge for artistic inspiration with Angela. We will explore Marino Ballena National Park, renowned for exceptional whale watching.

Conclude your Costa Rican adventure in the quaint agricultural haven of Naranjo, nestled amidst the verdant Central Valley. Depart from the Pacific coast, pausing to admire waterfalls and paint picturesque vistas before arriving in Naranjo. Surrounded by coffee fields and verdant pastures, the lodge offers a tranquil retreat immersed in nature’s embrace. Spend a delightful day exploring woodland trails and village scenes, punctuated by breaks for savouring delicious Costa Rican coffee.

Conclude your artistic journey with a heartfelt farewell dinner by the crackling open fire, reminiscing about the unforgettable experiences amidst the beauty of Costa Rica’s landscapes and traditions.
