Art Safari creative adventures in Africa to Malawi

Rivers, Lakes and Mountains

17 – 30 September 2013 tour completed

with Mary-Anne Bartlett

This is a slow pace safari at a stunning time of year, cooler by night and sunny altitudes by day, with views to die for. We stay in simple as well as honeymoon destinations with all the romance of the bush.

The views and countryside we paint on this trip are incredible. Dramatic mountains rise from theplains. Sleek animals graze contentedly. Liwonde National Park, Thyolo Tea Estates near Mount Mulanje, Zomba Mountain and an idyllic tropical island on Lake Malawi form the backdrop for a focus on landscape painting and photography.

For anyone who wants to experience the life and wonder of Africa, then Malawi is a wonderful country to visit.  It’s impossible not to smile in Malawi, the Malawians make it a very happy place to be painting.  There is stunning wildlife at this time of year, and we spend time in the heart of local communities and national parks.

We float on the River Shire painting hippos and eagles; we linger at the waterhole close to herds of elephant, sable, eland, hartebeest; we enjoy the frolics of the baby warthogs, and at all times keep our eyes open for lion, rhino, buffalo and leopard.

There is lots of time for fun and freedom.  We can spend time with local people in schools, villages, farms, galleries, paper-making and textile projects.

This is the country where Art Safari began in 1999, and Mary-Anne is a Malawi expert.  Over the years many people have travelled and painted with her in Malawi, enjoying the warmth with which the Art Safari groups are welcomed.
