Wildlife artist and author John Threlfall is leading the first Art Safari to the Isle of Islay, the southern most island of the Inner Hebrides.

John is passionate about wildlife and spends as much time drawing and painting directly from nature as he can, in the studio he works from his field sketches in acrylic, oil or pastel.  John will tutor the Art Safari with demonstrations, exercises and one-to-one tuition time.

Islay offers 130 miles of rugged coastline to explore.  Sand and shingle beaches, cliffs and mudflats, lochs and moors support a wide variety of wildlife, with more than two hundred different species of birds and colonies of seals.

Stretch by John ThrelfallVillages nestle into the landscape, red, roe and fallow deer roam the wide expanses of heather covered moorland.

Islay is famous worldwide for its single malt whiskey, with 8 working whisky distilleries.  After a fulfilling day of painting and exploration what could be better than sampling a ‘wee dram’ as the sunsets!

We are basing the tour in Bowmore and John will work closely with the RSPB on the Island, to ensure we make the most of sketching and painting opportunities.

Joining point the Lochside Hotel in Bowmore on Sunday 31 May 2015.
