Art Safari’s creative adventures in Africa to Namibia

Rainbows in the Dunes  15 days

19th April – 3rd May 2012  tour completed+ extension to 5th May on request

After the rains the desert blooms and the skies are crystal clear, while we can paint in cooler temperatures. This safari takes us to the most impressive parts of Namibia for landscape and wildlife.  Using our expert local knowledge we have tailor-made this experience taking you to sketch and explore breath-taking vistas by day, before retiring to stylish and comfortable lodges to relax, unwind and savour this artistic journey.

Wildlife, great deserts, seascapes and landscapes are our subjects. On this Art Safari the landscape is ever changing, as you move across the county filling your sketch books and cameras with wildlife, bird-life and extraordinary weather sculpted terrain beneath vast dramatic skies.

Etosha National Park’s colourful deserts and salt pans, water holes and forests will start to fill our sketchbooks with rhinos, desert elephant, lions, giraffe and springbok.  Listen to hundreds of zebra jostling and splashing at a waterhole, as you sketch you notice how the stripes differ from animal to animal.  Our landscape paintings include red and orange rocks decorated with ancient rock engravings, Damara table mountains and gorges, coastal pages from the Skeleton Coast’s wild beaches with their seals and shipwrecks, and the mighty dunes of Sossusvlei where images of the windswept expanses will linger forever in our minds.

We have the chance to visit one of Art Safari’s projects – a community Sports Academy in Damaraland, complete with netball and full size football pitches.  Orlando Haraseb, one of our safari guides set up this great project and this was made possible through Art Safari Charities.  It’s always a special safari for Mary-Anne – as her birthday is during the trip.
