Oil paints are one of the lushest mediums to use, their rich creamy texture and punchy colours are a joy to mix on the palette. In this beginner painting workshop, I’ll explain different mediums and painting surfaces, types of brushes, and we’ll also look at how to lay out your palette.
Then we will paint! To begin, we’ll make two colour wheels of warm and cool colours so that you gain confidence and understanding of what your paint can do. Using these colours, we’ll complete a simple still life, considering the variation of brushstroke, blending techniques and mixing shadows and highlights.
This workshop is best suited to beginners or someone who has a little knowledge but would like to improve their skills of mixing and applying colour.
By the end of the workshop, you will have the basic knowledge to begin painting oils on your own.
A full list of recommended equipment will be provided nearer the time, however you are certain to need canvas, oils, brushes and lots of enthusiasm!
