Expressive Drawing for Nature
Join Alice Angus and Liz Myhill for the second of three days to explore your own style. It’s an eyeopening process! Join in at any stage – you can always ask us about the recordings if you’ve missed one!
Three exciting and fun, expressive, drawing and mark making workshops to help you find freedom, identity and your own style.
We will introduce experimental ways to approach drawing and share the excitement and joy of discovery.
The workshops will help you find new approaches to mark making that will bring vitality, expressiveness and energy to your drawing.
Over the three workshops we will guide you through a range of exercises which you can return to time and again to loosen up or experiment, complemented by longer drawing sessions building up your personal mark-making “toolkit” and how to use it expressively.
We explore:
We will provide a pdf which includes a list of recommended materials (though you are welcome to start with whatever you already have) and full details of the exercises given in the workshop.
These workshops are suitable for anyone – whether you are a non artist just discovering drawing or an experienced artist who would like to take time out to experiment and explore.
This is Day 2 of a series of three days.
Join us again on 3 Feb.
You can book one day only, though we advise that you will benefit so much more by joining the full series of three days. Not to worry if you can’t make one of the days, ask us about receiving the recordings!
Workshop 2 – Engaging the Senses
We engage with nature using a full range of senses but when we are drawing we usually only use our sight to observe the world around us.
In this workshop we will explore other ways to observe and draw, immersing ourselves in the sounds, textures and atmosphere of the natural world.
We will guide you through new ways to tune in, find connections and produce work that conveys different aspects of your experience.
A range of exercises focussing on touch, sound, atmosphere, weather and mood will open up fresh perspectives and approaches to mark making.
We’ll also be looking at how to incorporate some of the ideas into your own works especially when you are drawing nature outdoors.
Place to work – your computer – the workshops will be indoors using zoom.
Items – We will ask you to collect some natural objects to use during the workshops.
and we will give you more information nearer the time
Materials – The following materials are suggested:
Drawing board and clips, masking tape, paper and/or sketchbooks (A2 size recommended), cheap cartridge or newsprint is ideal for the morning exercises, heavier paper for the afternoon. Soft pencils, charcoal and erasers, conté, brush pen, ink and any other dry media you may like eg pens, pastels. Keep things focussed on the line by working in black, grey and white.
