Learn about painting shadows, which colours to choose and how to create contrast to create bright sunshine

Spend a day with Karen Pearson to energise your paintings and be confident in your colours and tones for shadows and light.  Today is all about making the paper shine and the shadows sing.

Join Karen for a hands-on session to explore the delights of using shadows in your paintings.

We’ll cover:

  • How to reserve light in your paintings
  • How to plan and be confident in your tonal range
  • Discovering the colour of shade
  • How to represent back-lit subjects and create resonance in your shadows

Karen will work in pencil, ink and watercolour.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Meet Karen and the Art Safari team on Zoom for four hours of art demonstration and tuition time, which includes advice on sketching and painting birds.  She will also concentrate on observational techniques and drawing skills that will help you to capture shadows and light landscapes.  Our way of working at Art Safari is to stretch your way of seeing and give you extra confidence in your lines.

In her demonstrations Karen will pick a subject to develop on camera while she talks you through her process.

You will have the option to paint from a variety of images to suit your taste from a library of photos you will receive as part of the course package.

You have time in between sessions to complete your work and submit images of your paintings for feedback on our private Facebook group or by email.

The workshop will be recorded so you will be able to watch the video online afterwards.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

  • A laptop, Macbook, PC, iPad or tablet
  • An assortment of paint brushes, suitable for your medium in different shapes and sizes

Karen will work in pencil and watercolour but you may use any medium. This course isn’t specifically about one media or about colour, so just use colours you are familiar with and those you already have.
